I like to reinstall Windows every 2 or 3 months so this doesn't work for me. What I do is activate it by phone and install the basic apps that I use every day and customize and tweak Windows to my liking and make a backup. This way the activation is already complete when you reinstall and you don't have to mess around with installing all your software. I also create backup images every few weeks to make sure I always have a recent copy on hand so if anything goes wrong I can just go back to a previous image and everything is good to go. If you call and activate, leave the OS on for at least 120 days before trying to activate online again or make a backup so the key and activation is already installed.
Yea, I should have done that, but I never did.....

Backup Your Keys for Windows 7

Do you reinstall Windows often? Worried that you will run out of activations with your precious genuine key? Then No Clue's Token Restore is the tool for you!
I have used this and it works great!

"While working with a camera crew supervising flight testing of advanced aircraft at Edward's Air Force Base, California,
the camera crew filmed the landing of a strange disc object that flew in over their heads and landed on a dry lake nearby.
A camera crewman approached the saucer, it rose up above the area and flew off at a speed faster than any known aircraft."

I think it's just personal Preference. I have a habit of reinstalling 7 so many times. I always have done this. Did it once or twice with XP. And for Vista many times.
