x86 vs x64 (REPORT)
  1. #1
I just wanted to share my expirience on x86 vs x64

first of all, i have a pretty decent lenovo Thinkpad T61P laptop with the following specs,
    Nvidia 570M GPU
    and only 2gb of ram

and here is my system screen :

    and Win+R = winver

    anyways

upto the time when 7600 was released (on MSDN) i was using 7100 x32 and then finally i moved to 7600 x32
then out of curiosity, i decided to try x64 even though i have only 2 gigs of ram

so i did a clean install of x64, downloaded all the drivers (which exist- even WINDOWS 7 SPECIFIC!!!! (they are beta drivers) ) and BOOM

    everything is faster

programs such as office 2007 launch in 3 seconds..... in games everything is faster

for example i used to get 25 FPS with everything on high when playing Microsoft Flight Simullator X. now with the SAME build, but x64 i get 34 FPS!!!!!!!!! with EXACTLY the same settings.

in one word, If you have a compatible proceessor, and you can find drivers for your hardware, UPGRADE to x64 EVEN if you have 2gb or more

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND YOU TO UPGRADE IF YOU ONLY HAVE 1GB -------
EDIT- i forgot to metion that i have NOT had even one BSOD, Hangup, or slow down ever since i installed it ( apprx a month ago)

I am glad that you have had a good experience with X64. I would recommend 2 more gigs of ram though. You nay come ac cross a program that will require it.

HINT: When you cant find W7 x64 drivers, substitue with Vista x64 drivers. With all the drivers I have decompiled the only ones that seem to have ANY differance are the Nvidia and ATI drivers. Everything else just seems to have different version detection, but version detection is retarded in the first place.

Yup took me a little digging but found it on Imagine shack,as to x64 and x86 I am actually running both of them now on 2 separate Hard Drives, when I got the official RTM keys from Technet I decided to go ahead and run x64 to see how it goes and been loving it ever since..

IMHO you should use at least the minimum requirements of an OS. I am sure that it will run on less memory but there may come a point in time when it won't.
